It's my Birthday week, so I can write about whatever I want! ;)
Here's a story for you:
I used to be a Math Genius.
It's true.
I graduated High School with a 4.0 Average + scored nearly perfect on the Math section of the SAT's.
It was embarrassing how many times I won the Math Award at the end of the school year + got called up on stage to receive it.
In Math class, I would often get over 100% on my tests, + hide them from my other classmates so I wouldn't get teased! ;) (I know, horrible.... ;))
When I graduated high school, people slated me for the Ivy League. They thought maybe I would be a Doctor or a Lawyer....
But instead I chose a "second-tier" school that gave me a scholarship. I wasn't into being "highly competitive."
Instead, I majored in Sociology + did the Women's Studies Program. (I spoke at Women's Studies graduation! ;))
I wrote all my papers about Intentional Communities + even lived at one (Auroville) in India for my Study Abroad. I also visited + wrote about Twin Oaks, among others....
With a little help + guidance along the way...
I learned to unlearn about "following the rules...."
My twenties included (dread)locking my hair + living out of a biodiesel VW Vanagon...
But that is another story! ;)
I'm telling you about this "Math Genius" business, because it is something about me that you might not guess!
+ It is something I've been in the process of owning + reclaiming about my past, + about what makes me who I am. A Beautiful + Multi-dimensional Woman.
My Birthday was Yesterday, June 15th.
+ I am so grateful to celebrate it with YOU!
Thank You for being here + saying "YES" to loving All of You. Even the embarrassing, "Math Award" parts. ;) Or, the really cool super smart/ or made-a-mistake parts.
They are all pieces of what make us whole, + what make us who we are today.
So, I ask you this:
Is there a part of you that needs reclaiming?
A part of your story you'd rather not tell, that it's time to bring into the light?
I invite you to begin exploring the dark places + digging through those old photo albums + dusty elementary school files....
You just might find something that you, or somebody else you know, will LOVE!
