One of the most magical memories I have of living on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2008-9, was swimming with the dolphins!
While working at a Bed + Breakfast, on Christmas Eve Day, I decided to go out for a swim. When I arrived at the water, the spinner dolphins were jumping up + diving back into the ocean. I put my snorkel gear + fins on + climbed in!
Words cannot describe the experience of being enveloped in a dolphin pod, swimming along, twisting + turning + flipping my "tail" aka. snorkeling fins! It felt like being carried along in a magical world.
When I came out of the water, the sun was starting to set, + there were some people sitting on the rocks. I went up to say "Hi," + it turns out all three of these women had just flown to Hawaii from California to work a David Wolfe New Year's Retreat! I told them that I, too, was a Raw Chef (+ fan of David Wolfe), + we connected!
A day or two later, I was making beds + cleaning up breakfast at the B+B, + I felt a sudden urge to drive to the dolphin swimming spot. I normally didn't leave to swim at this time, but I followed my intuition + went. When I jumped out of the car, I realized I had parked right next to the David Wolfe people again!
I took this as a huge Synchronicity, or a sign that there was something more. I asked them if they needed an extra person for their New Year's Retreat Crew, + they did! ;) In fact, they needed a Dishwasher.
Dishwashing wasn't quite what I was used to, as the former Kitchen Director at Living Foods Institute in Atlanta, + owner of my own Catering Company, but I knew I needed to be there, + I took the position!
And let me tell you, washing those dishes was one of the most Blissful Kitchen experiences of my life, + I went on to work another retreat with David Wolfe + crew, before returning to Atlanta.
The connections I made were so special + magical, that I kept them, + in 2010, was invited to be on Kitchen Crew for Epic Eden Hot Springs Retreat in Arizona. Again, a Blissful Kitchen experience, with some heaps of Community, Love, + Laughter mixed in.
This experience of following my intuition to swim with the dolphins eventually led to me moving back to California in 2011, + living with one of the friends I met that magical night!
